Apoka Lodge | Kidepo National Park
Apoka Lodge is a luxury accommodation facility located within Kidepo Valley National Park. The lodge consists of 10 huge thatched bandas, with views of the landscape and wildlife. The lodge is situated at the edge of the Narus River Valley, whose water source acts as a magnet drawing large herds of wildlife like; buffaloes, elephants, zebras, giraffes, and even Jackson’s hartebeests.
Apoka Lodge’s prime location at the heart of Kidepo Valley National Park makes the lodge a perfect place for visitors to explore the opulent and dazzling savanna in the park, as well as have an encounter with the numerous wildlife like; Rothschild’s giraffe, Burchell’s zebra, buffaloes, lions, African savannah elephants, bushbucks, hartebeests and so much more.

Kidepo Valley National Park is home to over 480 bird species, with a record of being the only national park in Uganda where tourists can see the Ostrich birds in the wild.
Apoka’s grass-thatched bandas comprise of large and spacious rooms with an open balcony, large sitting rooms, a private outdoor tub, relatively large and comfortable beds. The rooms have hand-woven woolen carpets, large dressing robes, and extra-large towels; all aimed at giving the guests uttermost comfort and a pleasurable stay.

Game Drives: Guests staying at the lodge can embark on a game drive in the park. There are day and evening game drives that can be arranged for a guest depending on one’s preference. While on a game drive, be certain to see wildlife such as; zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, ostriches, waterbucks among others. Day game drives cost 30 USD while a night game drive will cost 40 USD and are visitors are accompanied by a park guide.
Birding: Apoka Lodge is situated at the heart of Kidepo Valley National Park, which is home to over 480 species of birds. Visitors have the chance to see birds like; ostrich, African- Pied Hornbills, Emin’s Shrike, Lesser Kestrel, Fox’s Weaver, Black-Winged and Golden Pipit among others.
Community walks: Guests staying at Apoka Lodge can a trip to the neighboring Karamajong communities. Get to interact with the local people, indulge in their day to day activities, learn about the culture and also be entertained with performances from the local dance group.
Other activities that visitors can take part in while staying at Apoka Lodge include; guided nature walks, swimming, and hiking on Lomej Mountains.
How to Get to Apoka Lodge.
Apoka Lodge is located in Kidepo national park and visitors can access the lodge by road and air. The Lodge is about a 9 hours’ drive from Kampala City, leading to the national park. There is also an option of accessing the lodge by air; with domestic flights from Entebbe International Airport to Apoka. The flights usually take an estimated 2- 3 hours, with some stopovers at Murchison Falls National Park.
