Things to See and Do in Entebbe City Uganda: Entebbe is a tiny and lovely town in Uganda, located on the beaches of Lake Victoria. Except for a vast stretch of land connecting it to Kampala, which is around 37 kilometers distant, much of it is encircled by the lake. Entebbe is the starting point for most of our Uganda safaris, taking you to any of our wildlife national parks including the famous Bwindi impenetrable national park which is a notable gorilla safari destination in the world.
Entebbe is derived from the Luganda term “Ntebe,” which means a seat. Before the colonial authority arrived, it was the cultural center of Buganda’s mamba clan and was known locally as Entebbe Ya Mugula. The colonial administration, led by Sir Gerald Portal, opted to make it their primary administrative headquarters in the 1890s. Entebbe kept several of Uganda’s administrative offices after independence in 1962, including the main state house.

Uganda Wildlife Education Centre Tour.
This Centre is located in Entebbe, Uganda, amid a tiny tropical forest on the banks of Lake Victoria. The Uganda Wildlife Education Centre was founded in 1952 as a zoo. It originated as a shelter for wounded and rescued animals from Uganda’s national parks before becoming a zoo. The zoo has since expanded into the Uganda Wildlife Education Center. Except for mountain gorillas, the Center houses the majority of the animal species found in protected regions around the country.
To name a few, pythons, cobras, chimps, monkeys, lions, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, elands, warthogs, buffaloes, leopards, and cheetahs may be found at the Center. Expect to encounter ostriches, the common booboo, sunbirds, egrets, the big blue turaco, and the shoebill stork.
Don’t forget to hire a local Guide for a more personalized experience. The Guide will show you around the facilities and explain how the animals were brought in. After a 2-hour tour of the facilities, you may participate in various activities such as donkey riding, swimming at a local beach, or dining at the restaurant.
Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary.
This is one of the few areas where people may get up and personal with chimps, which is difficult in major national parks. Top activities in Entebbe founded the sanctuary with the goal of giving a new home for rescued and orphaned chimps. Instead of confining the monkeys in cages as at Entebbe Zoo, the Centre lets the chimps to roam freely in the island’s tropical jungle. Tourists may observe the chimps up close during feedings or by signing up for the volunteer or caregiver for a day program. The refuge presently houses nearly 40 orphaned chimpanzees.
The number is limited in order to minimize congestion, which may render the space unworkable. Other activities available when visiting the Ngamba Island Sanctuary include kayaking, swimming, and visiting fishing towns.
Uganda Reptiles Village.
If you have time and are interested in crocodiles and snakes, this is the place to go. The Reptiles Village in Entebbe is home to some of Africa’s most dangerous snakes. Entebbe cobras, vipers, puff adders, and black mambas are some of the best spots to hang out. There are also non-venomous pythons and green snakes. Other reptiles include chameleons, geckos, turtles, tortoises, and crocodiles.
The Reptile Village is located near Abaita Ababiri, a commercial hamlet before Entebbe, off the Entebbe road. The snakes in the reptile village are not as deadly as they should be. Their venom is removed by the reptile experts allowing visitors to touch and take pictures with them.
Botanical Gardens
This is one of Uganda’s oldest eco-tourism destinations. It was founded in 1901 by British colonialists. The gardens have a range of tree species that are home to a variety of birds and monkeys (Vervet and Colobus monkeys). Beaches.
With a big lake like Victoria, Entebbe has more beaches than any other area in Uganda. There appears to be a recreational beach on every lakeshore in Entebbe for revelers to unwind and enjoy. Entebbe’s well-known beaches include Entebbe Imperial Resort Beach, White Sand Beach, Spenar Beach, Sports Beach, lido Beach, Nabinonya Beach, Aero Beach, and Botanical Beach. Mabamba Swamp
This wetland is one of Uganda’s greatest birding locations. The wetland is located on Lake Victoria’s shoreline and is covered in papyrus and miscanthus. The main draw is the uncommon and elusive shoebill stork. The shoebill is a solitary bird with an appearance reminiscent of the Jurassic period. Aside from the Shoebill stork, there are over 250 more bird species to keep an eye out for. Birders can also see the endangered Sitatunga that lives in the marshes. The Mabamba Wetlands Sanctuary may be reached by speed boat from Entebbe and then by native canoe through the papyrus reeds.
