Lionel Messi Joins PSG Saints on a 2 Year Contract

Lionel Messi signs a two year contract with PSG Saints- a French football club based in Paris, France. His entry into the French club marks a new chapter in Messi’s football career after he exited Barcelona where he has been playing as a free agent since 1st July, 2021.

During a press conference on Tuesday, PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi announced that 34 year old football legend had signed a two year contract with the club worth 104 million Euros. He also said that Messi will wear number 30 which is the number he wore when he made his debut back in 2004 at PSG.

Messi announced over the weekend that he could not be renewing his contract with Barcelona due to contact rules with La Liga that restricted his stay in the club. Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, explained on Friday that the club’s financial difficulties prevented them from signing Lionel Messi to a new contract.

Lionel Messi has been playing for Barcelona since the age of 14 when he first joined the club and his exit  from the club has left many fans disheartened and a bit worried about the future of the club post-Messi. Messi arrived in Paris on Tuesday where he signed his new contract with PSG and is sent to be joining the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Sergio Ramos and Angel di Maria among others.

In addition to this, a Paris Saint-Germain Football Academy is being built as a result of the partnership between Rwanda and PSG. The academy is being established in Huye in the southern province of Rwanda.
