How to Get to Nkuringo Sector: Nkuringo sector is one of four sectors found in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, and it is located in the park’s southern sector. Aside from the Nkuringo sector of Bwindi Forest National Park, there are also Buhoma, Rushaga, and Ruhija sectors that are home to habituated mountain gorilla families and are available to tourists all year.
Although Buhoma is the greatest gorilla trekking sector, the Nkuringo sector gives tremendous distinctiveness to all visitors to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Aside from the gorilla trekking safaris in Nkuringo sector, travelers have the opportunity to see views of Virunga volcanoes, the wonder and beauty of crater lakes, and the rolling hills of the forest, providing travelers with an additional unforgettable experience on top of the fascinating adventure of gorilla trekking.
How to Get to Nkuringo Sector.
Nkuringo sector may be reached by road from Kampala or Entebbe through Masaka-Mbarara route, via Kibale, and lastly in Nkuringo sector, as well as by air travel.
Entebbe- Kisoro-Nkuringo
The longest trip from the International Airport is Entebbe through Kabale, Kisoro, and Nkuringo. It is approximately 527 kilometers long with just 34 km on a dirt road from Kisoro Town and will take around 11 hours to drive.
Travelers traveling from Rwanda via the Cyanika border in the south and DRC via the west Bunagana border can also join this route at Kisoro. Both border crossings are around 19 kilometers from Kisoro Town.
The simplest road approach to the Nkuringo sector is from Entebbe through Kabale and splitting off at Muko, 2 kilometers from Lake Bunyonyi on the Kabale-Kisoro road, to travel 38 kilometers on a dirt road to Nkuringo. The journey is 497 kilometers, with just 38 km on a dirt road that can be completed in about 10 hours with a 4×4.
Queen Elizabeth National Park via Ishasha-Kihihi-Nkuringo
Starting from the Ishasha area of Queen Elizabeth National Park, you may travel past Kihihi (airstrip), Kanungu, Rutoma, and Rubanda before joining the Kabale-Kisoro Route at Rubanda and continuing up to Muko, where the highway splits. This path is not paved and would require the use of a 4×4 safari truck to travel. This route is roughly 160 kilometers long and would take around 5-hours to complete.
Alternatively, you may drive into Buhoma and round the Bwindi Forest through Ruhija Sector for 148 kilometers, which would take about 5-hours on a gravel road.
Travelling by Air to Nkuringo Sector Bwindi National Park
The quickest air connection from Entebbe International Airport to Nkuringo Sector is via Kisoro Airport, which is approximately 34 kilometers away and an hour’s drive on a muddy road. Between Kisoro and Entebbe, Aerolink runs daily scheduled and chartered flights.
If you want to go to the Masai Mara or Serengeti, you’ll travel from Kisoro to Entebbe and then to the other attractions in the region. Flights also link to Kasese -Queen Elizabeth National Park, Semiliki Wildlife Reserve, Murchison Falls National Park, and Kidepo National Park. Inquire with your tour operator about available flights.
It would take tourists only one hour to reach Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park from Entebbe International Airport’s Kajjansi airstrip, and they will land at Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip before being taken to their lodging lodge in Nkuringo sector.
