During this 8 days Congo safari, you will be visiting two major national parks in the eastern province of the Democratic Republic of Congo- Kahuzi-Biega national park in Bukavu and Virunga national park in Goma. This tour also includes a hike to and from the famous volcano- Mount Nyiragongo. You will also get to spend time habituated chimpanzees at Lwiro Sanctuary in Kahuzi Biega national park and track mountain gorillas in Virunga national park.

Detailed Itinerary for 8 Days Kahuzi Biega & Virunga from Kigali.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Rwanda
Airport pickup and transfer to your Hotel in Kigali. Early arrivals can take optional tour of Kigali city including Kimironko market and the Genocide memorials and the surrounding areas. Overnight and Dinner – City Blue Hotel.
Day 2: Transfer to Bukavu- DR Congo
In the morning, you will be picked by the driver from your hotel in Kigali and drive southwards to Cyangugu boarder on the way to Bukavu in DR Congo. You will have a stop over in Butare, where you will visit the national museum of Rwanda, the king’s palace in Nyanza, and the Rwanda genocide memorial site if time allows. After lunch, continue on a scenic journey to Bukavu with wonderful views of the hills in Rwanda through the tropical forest of Nyungwe National park connecting to Congo through Rusizi 1 Border. Dinner and overnight at Panorama Hotel
Day 3: Transfer to Lwiro Chimpanzee Sanctuary.
In the morning after breakfast, you will drive to Lwiro Chimpanzee Sanctuary for chimpanzee trekking. This is a full day activity. This offers you the opportunity to spend enough time with the researchers at the site sharing information at depth about this Chimpanzee project. Then take a walk to the forest to see the chimpanzees hopping on the tree branches and take unforgettable photos and videos.
After visiting the Chimps, you will connect back to your hotel. Dinner and overnight at Panorama Hotel.
Day 4: Transfer to Goma
In the morning you will take a boat from Bukavu to Goma which takes 6-7 hours. Upon arrival in Goma transfer to your hotel for rest and overnight at the Hotel. In the afternoon Goma city tour and return back to the hotel. Dinner at overnight at La Joie Plaza Hotel
Day 5: Transfer to Virunga National Park
At 11.30am pick up from the Hotel and transfer to Virunga National Park. In the afternoon nature walk and birds watching in Kibumba Village. Dinner and overnight Kibumba Tented Camp
Day 6: Mountains Gorilla trekking
After an early breakfast at Kibumba Tented Camp, trekkers will head down the hill to meet their Ranger guides and have a briefing before the gorilla trek. Treks usually require 1-2.5hours of hiking each way, depending on location of the gorilla group being trekked and the difficulty of the terrain. After spending the allotted hour with gorilla family group, trekkers will make their way back to camp, enjoy a late lunch and have the rest of the day at leisure. Dinner and overnight Kibumba Tented Camp as night before
Day 7: Nyiragongo Hike
After breakfast in Kibumba, proceed to Kibati Ranger post at 8:15am, departure point for the Nyiragongo volcano trek. The climb up the volcano will take around four to six hours and trekkers will overnight on the summit.
Day 8: Descending & Transfer Back to Kigali.
After an early breakfast at the summit, downhill mountains where you will reach down at around 12am depending on the group speed. Upon arrival at the bottom proceed back to Kigali.
