Detailed itinerary for 5 Days Uganda Gorilla Trek and Mount Sabyinyo Hike.

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Mgahinga gorilla national park,

Depending on your location, on the first day of the four-day Uganda gorilla trekking and Mount Sabyinyo trip, you will be greeted by our driving guide, who will brief you on the safari before beginning the journey to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in southwestern Uganda. It is a full-day adventure that includes a detour near the Equator in Kayabwe to buy souvenirs and snap photographs before continuing to Mbarara for lunch. After lunch, you will continue your journey to the park, which offers stunning views of the countryside, gorgeous landscapes, and the Kigezi hills, among others. You will arrive at Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in the evening, settle into the lodge for dinner, and spend the night resting and preparing for your gorilla trek the next day.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga gorilla national park

After an early breakfast on the second day of your four-day Uganda gorilla trekking and Mount Sabyinyo walk, you will bring a packed lunch and meet your driving guide at park headquarters for a training on gorilla trekking laws and regulations. Following the briefing, you will be assigned a park guide who is familiar with mountain gorillas and forest pathways. Trekking with the Nyakagezi family in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park takes between 30 minutes and 7 hours, depending on where the gorillas are situated, since they tend to wander from one location to another in search of food.

During the trek, you will be able to see other primate species, mammals, and bird species, among others, and once the gorillas are located, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat, where you will be able to learn about their behaviors and habits, watch them feed, breastfeed, play, groom young ones, take photos, and record stunning videos. After the one-hour contact with the gentle giants, you will return to the park headquarters, where you will be issued a certificate for participation in gorilla trekking. You will then meet your driver guide and proceed to the lodge for an evening of leisure, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 3: Batwa Trail Experience

On the third day of your 5 Days Uganda gorilla trek and Mount Sabyinyo Hike Safari, you will have breakfast at your lodge then meet up with your driver guide. Drive to the park for briefing before you embark on a guided hike on the Batwa trail. You will be guided by local Batwa guides as they take you through their cultural history and dependence on the forest for their livelihood. You will be taught how the locals used to make a fire the local way, hunt and gather food in the forest. Later head back to your lodge for lunch and spend the rest of your evening relaxing at your lodge.

Day 4: Hike mount Sabyinyo in Mgahinga gorilla national park

On the fourth day of the four-day Uganda gorilla trekking and Mount Sabyinyo trip, you will bring your lunch box and meet your driving guide at the Ntebeko park headquarters for a training on mountaineering Mount Sabyinyo. Following the briefing, you will be assigned a park guide and given a walking stick. You may also hire a porter to assist you carry your backpack and give you a tug or push while trekking. Mount Sabyinyo is a dormant volcano that stands 3645 meters above sea level. The hike takes 8 hours, with 4 hours to the peak and 4 hours back, depending on your speed.

During the hike, you will travel through several vegetation zones such as bamboo, Hagenia Hypericum, and sub-alpine zones, which serve as homes for animal species such as golden monkeys, gorillas, buffaloes, elephants, various bird species, plants, and trees. Once you arrive at the summit, you will be standing in three nations at the same time: Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. You will also be able to visit Lake Kivu in Rwanda, the Rwenzori mountain ranges, other Virunga volcanoes, stunning landscapes, and snap photographs, among other things. After enjoying the breathtaking views, you will have a picnic lunch before beginning your 4-hour descent down the volcano. When you reach the starting point you will meet up with your driver guide to drive back to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Departure to Kampala      

After a leisurely breakfast on the final day of your four-day Uganda gorilla trekking and Mount Sabinyo trip, you will check out of the lodge and meet your driver guide for the ride to Kampala. You will get fantastic views of traditional homesteads, local people, Kigezi hills, gorgeous landscape, and an en-route lunch at the Igongo Cultural Center. After lunch, you will travel to Kampala, where your driver guide will drop you off at Entebbe International Airport for your departing flight or at any other location as advised.
