Detailed Itinerary for 5 Days Rwanda Gorillas and Lake Kivu Tour
Day 1: Pickup and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park- Gorilla Tour
You will be picked up from your hotel in Kigali at 4:30 am and embark on a 3 hours drives to Volcanoes National Park. Arrive in time to check-in at the park and have your briefing. You will then be placed in tracking groups of a maximum of 8 members and assigned a guide and park ranger. Start your hike into the forest in search for a gorilla family.
Once you have located a gorilla family, you will be given 1 hour to spend with the gorillas. Later have lunch and head to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Golden Monkey Trek and Visit Ibyi’wacu Village
After having breakfast, you will drive to the park in time for your briefing. You will then head into the forest in search for golden monkeys and this can take anywhere between 1 to 6 hours or more depending on their location. You will be given an hour to spend with these playful primates once you have located them. Later head back to your lodge for lunch and relax for a while.
After lunch you will head out for a visit to Ibyi’wacu village on a cultural experience. Get a chance to learn more about Rwanda’s interesting culture as you interact with the friendly locals, wear traditional Rwandan attire and dance to tradition songs and performances by the local intore dance group.
Later have dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 3: Transfer to Lake Kivu- Afternoon Boat Cruise
Have breakfast and transfer to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi. Upon your arrival in Gisenyi, check into your lodge/ hotel and have lunch. Later in the afternoon, you will head out for a boat cruise on the lake where you will get to see the famous singing fishermen of the lake as they go about their daily activities. You will also get to view a variety of birdlife around the lake area such as the White-breasted Cormorants, Pied Kingfishers and Osprey among others.
Later head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Coffee Tour at Kinunu Washing Station
After having breakfast at your lodge, you will check out of your lodge and meet up with your driver guide. You will head Kinunu washing station for a coffee tour where you will be taken through the entire process of coffee growing, harvesting, storage and processing. Wind up your coffee tour with a tasty cup of coffee and also don’t forget to purchase some Rwanda-made coffee for yourself as a show of support to the local community. After your coffee tour, drive back to your lodge for lunch and relax for the rest of your evening. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 5: Transfer Back to Kigali
Wake up in time to have a relaxed breakfast meal at your hotel/lodge and then transfer to Kigali where your driver/guide will drop you off at a hotel of your choice or Kigali International Airport where you will board your flight back home. If a city tour was not possible on your first day, then you can opt for a short tour of Kigali city.
