Detailed Itinerary for 4 Days Volcanoes National Park (2 Gorilla Treks)
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Depending on your time of arrival in Kigali, you will be welcomed by our company representative upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport. If time allows, you will visit the genocide memorial center and other attractions in the city before heading to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes NP for Gorilla Trekking
Set off from Kigali very early at 4 am and head to Volcanoes National Park. Before starting your gorilla trek, you will have a briefing from the ranger guides. Trek through the forest till you come to the gorillas. Depending on how the gorillas travel, gorilla trekking might take anywhere from two to eight hours.
You are only permitted to stay with the gorillas for an hour once you locate a gorilla family, after which you will head back to base. You will drive to the lodge with your driver guide to unwind and spend the night there.
Day 3: Second Gorilla Trek and Ibyiwacu Cultural Tour
Today you will be doing your second gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park. Trekking with a different gorilla family is always a thrill and an unforgettable experience. Head to the park headquarters for a briefing and then commence your hike in the forest in search of a gorilla family. Once you have located the gorilla family, you will be given an hour to spend with the gentle giants. Head back to base, where you will find your driver guide waiting for you. You will get to visit Ibyiwacu village, which is located just outside the park. Get a chance to dive into Rwanda’s unique cultural heritage as you spend quality time with the locals and are entertained by traditional dance performances by the intore dance troupe.
Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Golden Monkey Trek and Transfer Back to Kigali
Wake up and have your breakfast on time before driving to the park for the briefing. Today you will be trekking with golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park before returning to Kigali. Golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes Park is less strenuous and hence can take anywhere between 1-3 hours, depending on the location of the primates. Once you have found a troop, you will be given an hour to spend with these playful primates.
Later, have lunch and drive back to Kigali, where you will be dropped off at a hotel of your choice or Kigali international airport, as you will advise marking the end of your safari.
