This is a 4 Days Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trek, Colobus Monkeys and Hiking Tour that takes you on a remarkable and adventurous journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park. During this tour, you will get to track habituated chimpanzees and colobus monkeys in Nyungwe and Cyamudongo forests. You will also get to enjoy hiking tours in the forest as you explore Isumo trail and the Canopy walkway.

Detailed Itinerary for 4 days Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trek, Colobus Monkeys and Hiking Tour
Day 1: Pickup from Kigali & Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
In the morning, you will be picked by the driver from your hotel in Kigali and embark on a 6 hours’ drive to Nyungwe national park. You will have a stopover visit to the King’s Palace in Nyanza and national museum in Butare and then have lunch enroute to the park. Arrive in Nyungwe in the evening and connect to your accommodation to spend the evening at leisure. Dinner and overnight at your lodge/hotel.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk
Enjoy breakfast and go for briefing about the endangered chimpanzees before entering the forest in search of the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are much easier to spot as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimpanzee tracking usually takes about 4-6 hours or more depending on their location. On finding them, spend an hour while taking pictures and videos. You will then return to your accommodation for lunch.
After lunch, you will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk-a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you. Before night fall, you will return to the lodge for dinner as above
Day 3: Colobus Monkey Trekking
Following breakfast at your hotel/lodge, meet up with your driver guide and go for briefing about the endangered black and white colobus monkeys before entering the forest in search of the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The black and white colobus monkeys are much easier to spot as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Primate tracking in Nyungwe forest usually takes about 3 hours or more depending on their location in the forest.
On finding them, spend an hour while taking pictures and videos. You will then return to your accommodation for lunch and relax for the rest of your afternoon. If you still wish to explore more of Nyungwe, there are other optional activities that you can do at your own cost such as visiting Gisakura Tea Estate, birding and hiking among others.
Later retire back to your lodge/hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Waterfalls Hike & Transfer to Kigali (Approximately 6 hours’ drive)
Have breakfast early in the morning then drive to the park for a guided nature walk to one of the Isumo waterfalls in the park. This is a 4 hours hike to and from and you will get to see a lot of wildlife and bird species during your hike.
After your hike, have lunch and later transfer to Kigali where your driver/guide will drop you off at a hotel of your choice.
