Detailed Itinerary for 4 Days Lowland Gorilla Safari in Kahuzi-Biega.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and City Tour.
Arrival in Kigali & City Tour: On day 1 of your 4 days lowland gorilla safari in Kahuzi-Biega, meet up with your guide upon your arrival in Kigali city (please inform our trusted travel consultants at Explore Rwanda Tours whether your pick-up location will be at Kigali International Airport or from your hotel). You will have lunch in Kigali city and then embark on a tour of the city. Some interesting places that you can visit in Kigali include; Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, Camp Kigali, Caplaki Craft village, Kimironko market, and Nyamirambo Women’s Center to mention but a few. Later drive back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at Kigali City Blue Hotel/ Kigali Serena Hotel.
Day 2: Transfer to Kahuzi-Biega National Park in Congo.
Transfer to Kahuzi-Biega: Have breakfast early in the morning from your hotel. Meet up with your guide and drive southwards to Cyangugu border enroute to Kahuzi Biega national park in Congo. The park is located in Bukavu in DR Congo. You will have a stopover in Butare where you will pay a visit to the King’s Palace in Nyanza, the Rwanda genocide memorial site, and the ethnography museum which is also known as the national museum of Rwanda. Have lunch and later transfer to Kahuzi-Biega national park in Bukavu. Dinner and an overnight stay at Panorama Hotel.
Day 3: Lowland Gorilla Trekking in Kahuzi-Biega.
Lowland Gorilla Trekking: Today marks the highlight of your 4 days lowland gorilla safari in Kahuzi-Biega. Have an early breakfast from your hotel and later drive to the park headquarters in Bukavu. After a briefing from the head ranger at the park, you will begin your gorilla trek. Trekking lowland gorillas is quite different from trekking mountain gorillas as trekking lowland gorillas takes about one to four hours. In addition to that, lowland gorillas are bigger than mountain gorillas and they tend to live in larger groups as compared to mountain gorilla groups. Once you have located a group of lowland gorillas, you will be given only an hour to spend with these magnificent giants. Make sure that your camera is ready to capture the blissful moments of your trek. Later drive back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali.
Transfer back to Kigali: Wake up in the morning and have breakfast at your leisure. Meet up with your guide and drive back to Rwanda crossing the border via Cyangugu. Have lunch in Kigali city and later have your guide drop you off at the airport in Kigali in time catch your flight back home. End of Tour.
