Tour Overview.

This 3 Days Bwindi fly-in safari has been designed for visitors who have less time to explore Uganda, and want to trek mountain gorillas in Uganda. Visitors taking this trip will get to spend at most one and a half hours flying to Kihihi Airstrip or Kisoro Air strip and another one and half hours driving to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The national park is located in the southwestern part of Uganda in the districts of Kanungu, Kabale and Kisoro.

 

Detailed Itinerary for 3 Day Bwindi Fly-In Gorilla Trekking Safari.

Day 1: Fly to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Welcome to Uganda! Your guide from Explore Rwanda Tours will pick you up from Entebbe International Airport and accompany you to boarding station, where you will board a domestic flight to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Depending on which sector of Bwindi national park you will be tracking from, you will land at either Kihihi (For the northern and eastern sectors of Bwindi) or at Kisoro Airstrip (For the southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park). You will then be transferred by road to Bwindi National Park, where you will check into your lodge for lunch or dinner depending on your domestic flight arrival schedule. If you wish, you can have an afternoon/evening cultural visit to the nearby Batwa communities. Get to interact with the local Batwa people (pygmies) and learn more about their culture and day-to-day lifestyles.

Later head back to your lodge for an overnight stay. Accommodation will be at Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge (Budget)/ Buhoma Haven Lodge (Mid-Range)/ Silverback Lodge (Luxury).

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

This is the day you have been anxiously waiting for. Have breakfast very early at you lodge as your guide will pick you up at 6am. You will embark on a short journey to the Parks headquarters in Buhoma. You are supposed to be at Buhoma at exactly 7am for a briefing by the park’s head ranger which will begin at 8am and then you will be put in groups of 8 individuals per group depending on the gorilla group you are going to track. Tracking begins at exactly 8:30 am hence endeavor to always keep time.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has a total of 15 habituated gorilla groups that are tracked from four trailheads. Of these 15 habituated gorilla groups, 3 are found in Buhoma area in the northwest part of the park; while 4 gorilla groups are situated in Ruhija in the eastern part of Bwindi and 8 gorilla groups in Nkuringo and Rushaga respectively, located south of Bwindi.

Each tracking group consists of strictly eight individuals with each group having a park guide and ranger. Tracking can take about 1- 6 hours depending how easily and quick the gorillas are spotted. Once you have located a gorilla group, you will be give exactly an hour with them; hence you should maximize your time well and don’t forget to take lots of pictures without using your camera’s flash. The tracking trails can be very wet, steep and slippery thus you should wear a good pair of hiking boots.

Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi

After your gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi Forest, you will proceed to do the Batwa Trail Experience, which is conducted by local Batwa guides. Get to learn more about the Batwa’s long and ancient history with the forest, and also learn how to make some local herbal medicines, and Batwa traditional hunting skills. Later head back to the park’s headquarters for your gorilla trekking certificate and transfer back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Fly back to Entebbe.

Have breakfast at your lodge early in the morning and check out of your lodge. Your safari guide will drive you to Kihihi or Kisoro Airstrips, where you will board a domestic flight to Entebbe International Airport. Once you arrive at Entebbe, you can wait for your departure flight back home or have a short tour of Entebbe town; all   this depends on your international departure flight schedule.
