Detailed Itinerary For 15 Days Rwanda Classic Safari
Day 1, Arrival and transfer to your hotel in Kigali
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, our guide will welcome you and transfer to Kigali city and depending on the time of your arrival; you will go for a short city tour with in Kigali and visit the genocide memorial site. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel des Milles Collines(Midrange)
Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After a morning breakfast on the second day of your 14 Days Rwanda Safari, you will transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park. En route, you will pass through wonderful and magnificent hills and cultivated countryside. Have a stopover at the royal King’s Palace in Nyanza for a cultural description about the history of Rwanda. Continue and visit the cultural museum at Rwesero. Proceed and reach Butare town where you will have lunch after lunch you will visit the Rwanda National Museum for a tour around the site.
Proceed and reach the Park late afternoon. Upon arrival you will visit the new Visitor’s Interpretive Centre to give you more information about the park such as number of primate species found in the park, types of bird species and other tourist activities carried out with in the Park. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Top Hill View Hotel (Midrange)
Day 3, Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy Walk
On the third day of your 14 Days Rwanda Safari, you will have an early morning breakfast then report to the park headquarters in Nyungwe forest for briefing before going for chimpanzee tracking. However, it is advisable to organize packed lunch and plenty of water prior to this expedition since it can sometimes last over 6 hours. In the forest, you will not only see chimpanzees to but also variety of animals and birds like the Rwenzori Turaco, black and white casqued horn bill, colobus monkeys – sometimes as many as 400 in a group. Have lunch and then embark on a 2 hours hike along the Canopy walkway– a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you there after connect to your accommodation to spend the evening at leisure. Return late in the afternoon. Return for dinner and Overnight as lodge above.
Day 4: Morning nature walk and Afternoon Forest Nature Walk
After having breakfast on the fourth day of your 14 Days Rwanda Safari, you will embark on a morning guided nature walk where you will get to explore one of the 19 trails in Nyungwe national park. Take approximately 4 hours exploring the beautiful flora and fauna in Nyungwe forest. Return to your lodge for lunch and later drive back to the park headquarters for an afternoon forest Nature walk with in the park which will enable you to explore the Park’s unique tourist features including waterfalls and orchids in the high altitude swamps. Return back to your lodge before sunset for dinner and overnight at as lodge above.
Day 5: Visit Bugarama Hot Springs, Rusizi River Boat Cruise and Transfer to Kibuye Town
On the fifth day of your 14 Days Rwanda Safari, you will have an early morning breakfast. You will visit Bugarama Hot Springs which are situated 1½ hour drive from Nyungwe Forest. Later in the day you will proceed to the Rusizi River for a boat cruise before heading to Kibuye later in the day where you will spend the night. Dinner and overnight stay at Cormoran Lodge (midrange)
Day 6: Explore Gisenyi Town- Nature Walk
You will spend the early part of the day relaxing on the beach before going for a nature walk along the lake shores. Dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel
Day 7, Transfer to Ruhengeri and Visit Ibyi’ wacu Village
On the 7th day of your 15 Days Rwanda Classic Safari, Breakfast will be served early this day on the seventh day of your 14 Days Rwanda Safari and then after, you will check out from your Hotel and later transfer to Ruhengeri. En route you will visit the Ibyi’wacu Cultural Village where you may have a wonderful and interactive experience about the Rwandan traditions, culture and way of life. After this you will continue to the Park reaching in the late evening. Dinner and overnight at Le bamboo Gorilla Lodge (midrange)
Day 8: Golden Monkey Tracking and Afternoon Nature Walk
After breakfast on the ninth day of your 14 Days Rwanda Safari, you will go for golden monkey tracking. This activity also takes like 2-3 hours in the Virunga forest. Later return back to your lodge for early lunch and later head back to the park for an afternoon nature walk that will lead you to a tropical waterfall that is within the park. Dinner and overnight stay as lodge above.
Day 9: Dian Fossey Hike and Optional Visit to Musanze Caves
Breakfast will be served early and drive back to the park headquarters as on day 2 above. Receive briefing and go for Dian Fossey trekking to her grave in Karisoke. The Dian Fossey trek is more challenging and lasts 6 to 7 hours. Return to the lodge for lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon; you may opt for a tour of the Musanze caves with a ranger guide. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 10: Hiking Mountain Bisoke
The tenth day of this 14 Days Rwanda Safari highlights a physical challenge. After breakfast at your Lodge, you will set out for a one day hike on Mount Bisoke. This will give you views of the beautiful slopes and also get a chance to see the forest while on the mountain. Return for dinner and overnight stay as lodge above.
Day 11: Transfer back to Kigali and to Akagera National Park
After breakfast on the eleventh day of your 14 Days Rwanda Safari, you will depart for Akagera national park. En route you will pass through the country’s phenomenal landscape which will give you views of the country’s beauty and also the life style of its people. Arrive in time for lunch at the lodge. Upon arrival in the park, you will go for a game drive in the park. Look out for animals such as elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles and many more like Antelopes. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge.
Day 12: Morning game drive, Walk the Line nature walk and Sunset Boat Cruise with birding.
The twelfth day of this 14 Days Rwanda Safari highlights more activities in Akagera National Park. Early in the morning after breakfast, you will go for a Northern circuit game drive to search for animals that you may have missed out in the previous game drive. There are some that are early risers and can only be seen in the morning. Return back to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you will go for a guided nature walk along the fence wall perimeters of the park. This activity only takes approximately 2 hours and you will be accompanied by park guides. You will get a chance to encounter some wildlife in the park.
After your walk the line nature walk experience, you will reconnect with your driver guide and head for a sunset boat cruise on lake Ihema. The boat ride on Lake Ihema which will offer you with views of the surrounding areas, hills and swamps. Expect to see Hippos, crocodiles and more bird species. Also, because you are interested in seeing bird species, you will take the boat to Nyirabiyoro Island where you will view a number of bird species. Get a chance to view a variety of bird species and explore the Island. Return back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay as lodge above Akagera Game Lodge.
Day 13: Rhino Tracking and Drive Back to Kigali.
Start your day with breakfast at your lodge. You will then head out to your briefing point where you will start your rhino trekking experience in Akagera Park. Akagera national park has over 30 rhinos including White and black rhinoceros. Return back to your lodge for lunch and later drive back to Kigali. Dinner and overnight at Milles Des Collines Hotel (Midrange).
Day 14: Kigali City Tour.
Have breakfast early in the morning and head out for a tour of Kigali City where you will get a chance to visit interesting places in the city such as Caplaki Craft Village, Kigali Genocide Museum, Kimironko Market, Inema Arts Gallery among others. Have lunch at a restaurant in Kigali. Dinner and overnight at Milles Des Collies Hotel.
Day 15: Departure
Have breakfast at leisure from your Hotel and spend the most part of your day relaxing at your hotel. Drop off at Kigali International Airport for your evening flight at 20:25hours.
